At the recent men’s collections in Paris, A.P.C.’s founder Jean Touitou held a presentation in which he told guys to only wear jeans one out of every two days. That’s right — the modern day master of denim was preaching the undeniable fact that most men wear jeans too often. He called it, “The fight for your right not to wear jeans.” What was abundantly clear (judging by the well-dressed men who attend said men’s collections every season), was the rise of the grey flannel pants. They were everywhere, worn with combat boots (see: Vukmirovic, Milan), leather lace-ups (see: Pask, Bruce), and sneakers (see: Tong, Eugene). And they looked great. The fit was unanimous across the board — tapered and a little short, with a heavy cuff. Call it the influence of Thom Browne. They’re a fine alternative to your denim, particularly during these frigid days, and this pair by Marna Ro is an ideal option — check the surface detail, the slim fit, and the clean lines. And who knows? Giving your jeans a rest might even make you appreciate them all the more.
