Last week we spoke about the difference between a guy who wears a suit out of necessity and a guy who wears one because he wants to; if you fall into the latter category, then this one is most definitely for you. Some of the best-dressed men in the Gilt offices nail the casual suit every single time [our VP of Editorial and Creative Tyler Thoreson being one of them], and it’s a cause of many a jealous word around the water cooler. Here, we’ve put together three different casual takes on the suit, no matter if your preference is for textured wool, khaki, or the more traditional worsted wool.
Look 1: Kicking Off
The quickest way to dress down your suit is to lose your tie. Swap out your button-down for a polo, and you’re right there; replace your lace-ups with some leather sneaks and you’re in business. (Or business casual, at least.)
Suit — Boglioi; Polo — Gant Rugger; Pocket Square — Pierrepont Hicks; Bracelet — Miansai; Sneakers — Sweeney London.
Look 2: Très Américain
With the weather heating up, it’s high time to get your favorite khaki suit back into your rotation, but this summer, try it with a punch of red, a dash of blue, and a pair of casual dub monks rendered in canvas.
Suit — Paul Smith; Polo — Descendent of Thieves; Pocket Square — Drakes; Bracelet — Miansai; Dub Monks — Generic Man.
Look 3: Blue’s Clues
There’s no denying that blue’s the color of the season, so there’s no reason you can’t rock it head-to-toe in your suit game. This suit is the most traditional of the bunch, so we paired it with a traditional signifier of casual-cool — the chambray shirt. Note the complementary blue hues in the shirt and pocket square, and the bracelet and sneakers.
Suit — Canali; Shirt — Hickey Freeman; Pocket Square — Drakes; Bracelet — Miansai; Sneakers — Del Toro.
